Safety and security on a college or university campus is critical. The right blend of resources can create a dynamic security program that helps campus community members feel safer, deter crime, improve safety awareness and control costs.
The Clery Center video, Part of the Fabric, describes the role of campus security professionals as integral stakeholders in a comprehensive campus community-based public safety model. It’s one of a suite of free 5-10 minute videos with accompanying companion guides that assist institutions of higher education to deliver consistent, pertinent training for their public safety and security professionals.
Earlier this year, Allied Universal announced its groundbreaking partnership with Clery Center—a leading national, non-profit training and policy organization dedicated to creating safer campus
communities—to offer these video and guide resources to educational institutions and their security teams.
Allied Universal’s Higher Education collaboration with the campus community goes deeper. For example, our partnership with Temple University is showcased with the opening of a new public safety station which houses the security team, emergency medical services and Temple’s Police Department under one roof off campus. The facility enables the teams to have a direct connection and closer presence within the extended campus community it serves.
“Instead of just being first responders, [community policing teams] can be talking to the neighbors even more, being part of the community, because we’re going to be right there,” Charlie Leone, the executive director of Campus Safety Services, shared in the Temple News article describing the opening. According to the article, the new station is a positive to the community as it will enable security to serve the large population of students who live off campus, as well as address concerns of residents in the area.
Temple University TV recently aired a piece featuring interviews with campus security professionals promoting the Walking Escort Program, one of many 21st century campus public safety and security services Allied Universal provides to campus communities. Click here to view the video.
With partnerships like these, and many others, there’s no doubt that Allied Universal campus public safety and security services are part of the fabric of the more than 175 campus communities we serve. Learn more at www.aus.com/highered.
