Brian J. Brown
National Portfolio Manager, Allied Universal
United States Navy
Brian J. Brown joined Allied Universal in July 2014. Having just retired from the United States Navy, Brian joined as a Security Professional and is now a National Portfolio Manager based in San Diego, CA.
Ever since he can remember, Brian always felt the need to serve, protect others and to make a difference. Brian comes from a military family as his father is a Marine Corp. Vietnam veteran. Much of Brian’s passion and drive to succeed stems from his father always telling him that they “can be anything, can do anything and can accomplish the impossible; you just have to want it.” This is why he decided to join the military.
After serving more than 23 years, he retired as a Master-at-Arms Chief Petty Officer. During his time in the military, Brian was stationed overseas in the Middle East and Asia specifically in Manama, Bahrain, and Sasebo and Yokosuka, Japan. During his stint in the United States, he was stationed at NAS/MCAS Miramar, USS Shiloh, USS Rentz, USS San Diego, USS Mobile Bay and USS Germantown. He also completed a three-year tour at the Naval Special Warfare Command in Coronado, CA.
A decorated officer, Brian received the Admiral Arleigh Burke Surface Warfare Operational Excellence Award for his service in Southern Counter Narcotics division. He was also named Sailor of the Year as well as being selected as Chief Petty Officer. Winning these accolades is something Brian will never forget.
Brian knew that adapting to the civilian workplace would be a bit challenging but he was prepared.
“I adapt fairly quick to change and accept (mostly) the reason behind the change,” he said. “I was already preparing myself for the transition away from Active Duty and this allowed me to avoid the many hardships that befall transitioning military personnel into the civilian workforce.”
Brian’s favorite part about his security career at Allied Universal is managing security professionals, providing them with the tools required to succeed and then watching them progress and move up into leadership and management positions. His favorite aspect of being a leader is knowing that his shoes will have to be filled one day and it is his responsibility to ensure that succession.
“At Allied Universal, we are free from all aspects of favoritism and discrimination and promote and exemplify a true equal playing field for our employees to experience and excel,” Brian said. “My experience working within such a diverse workforce has only strengthened my commitment to Allied Universal because I immediately saw the same when I came onboard.”
