Detection Dog Spotlight: Caitlin and Glen

For the last five years, Enhanced Protection Services Explosive Detection Canine Handler Caitlin Burkhardt and her yellow Labrador partner, Glen, have managed an extremely active deployment schedule at one of the region’s busiest transit hubs in New York City. We caught up with the team a week ahead of Glen’s anticipated retirement – and, while there were no signs of slowdown from the eight-year-old bomb dog, it did provide a perfect opportunity to reflect on this team’s good work together through the years.

As the Israel-Palestine conflict continues, demonstrations and counter-demonstrations continue to occur in major cities across the U.S. and around the globe as individuals express their solidarity with Israel and Palestine. These gatherings have evolved into confrontations, resulting in violent clashes and subsequent arrests by law enforcement, primarily due to the presence of counter-demonstrators. These protests have been particularly noticeable in North America and Europe but have also occurred in various cities in South America, Asia, Europe, and Australia.

Changing Threat Trends Since 9.11.2001

September 11, 2001, is indelible in our collective memory. Twenty-two years later, we will never forget the tragic loss of life at the hands of al-Qaeda terrorists. The U.S. has long been a target of international terrorism. Nearly 20 years before 9/11, the 1983 bombings of the Marine barracks and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut were clear indications of terrorists’ willingness to carry out attacks to further their agenda. The World Trade Center bombing and plots to bomb landmarks in New York City in 1993 further confirmed this.
